Marshland close to Ischler Ache in Strobl, during a short walk on Monday.
NSFW (Nikolaus’ Song for the Week)
This week’s song is from Resi Reiner.
I found her because she is also one of those wishing to go to Italy.
Retrospect
Summer Discourse
We had a very successful and intense summer discourse in Strobl this year and I filmed most of the content.
Caroline Heber (with Bernhard Schima and Werner Neudeck as respondents) on fiscal law,
and Gerhard Kürner on AI.
Like every year, we also had presentations that should widen the frame, such as Oliver Rathkolb on the year 1949.
Daniel Uechtmann, again, provided a highlight, presenting the historical context of “Rubens - Die vier Flüsse des Paradieses” - a picture from Peter Paul Rubens.
A Panel dealt with AI in Austrian Economy, masterfully compiled and chaired by Kristin Hanusch-Linser, with input from several business sectors, including legal publishing (with Susanne Stein-Pressl from Manz),
one on the future of Work with input from employers’ and employees’ representatives and Michael Stampfer from WWTF
and one on AI and Democratic Participation with Sylvia Kritzinger
As I was on the panel here, Ana Kumin was so kind to film it.
The students at Sommerhochschule are brilliant, the weather is nice and I learn a lot from students and fellow faculty colleagues.
75 Years Sommerhochschule
The Sommerhochschule celebrated its 75th birthday on Saturday (it was founded in 1949, this is why Rathkolb chose this topic).
We had a very nice formal ceremony with, inter alia, greetings from Federal President Alexander van der Bellen (who had attended the Summer Discourse some years ago).
and the party (with Valentin Edelmann and friends) was very nice too.
A “Festschrift” on 75 years of Sommerhochschule was printed and is available via the SHS-office.
Neuralink
During my morning runs around Bürglstein I listen to Elon Musk’s thoughts on Trump, human mankind, multiplanetary living, and, in particular, Neuralink - a company that transplants chips into human brains. Very interesting to hear Musk and Fridman in their technotopiaan ant-reguation world. Fridman equals a society’s success (only) with its ability to foster technical innovation.
#arsboni
Sabine Hermisson gave an interview on ME/CFS (Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome).
Source: https://www.cdc.gov/me-cfs/about/index.html
ME/CFS is a very serious condition that can happen (also) after a Covid19-infection. The talk shows a deeply concerning lack of support of patients and their caring relatives who are sent around between ignorance, lack of ressources and lack of research. We had the nterview on te #SeverMEDay which is one of the attempts to make the disease and the serious legal and social comsequences it brings better known to the public.
ORF-Topos has more on the disease, Sabine Hermisson also runs a blog and is very active on Twitter to tell others about her daughter’s fate.

I will be off for almost two weeks of vacation (Croatia and Slovenia) where I will try to learn a little about sailing from Saturday, right after the graduation ceremony here in Strobl.
No #arsboni and probably also no #weekly are scheduled for the next two weeks therefore.
Have a wonderful week!
Kind regards
